This phrase encapsulates
Birmingham's overall aim for a sustainable city. The process
is a partnership and needs the skills and energies of everyone to
make sure it happens. The Year will help you to explore what the
key concepts of sustainable development mean in reality.
Where did
the idea come from?
The idea is much more
than a clever phrase. It is drawn from a wealth of thinking
contributed from around the world, and its origins really stem
from the ground-breaking Earth Summit held in Rio de
Janeiro. This produced an ambitious series of long-range
proposals for sustainable development of the environment, known
collectively as Agenda 21. Building upon these foundations,
the most significant outcome for education was the development of
seven key concepts for children's learning: Education for
Sustainable Development.
