Towards a
sustainable lifestyle Most young
people care deeply about environmental issues.
They can learn about these issues in the classroom as
well as through the media. They want to help but
knowing what to do and how to do it is not always
easy. Eco-Schools could be the answer.
The Eco-Schools award
scheme is a straightforward and flexible way for schools
to extend environmental lessons outside the classroom
and apply them to the day-to-day running of the
school. It involves all members of the school
community working together to improve the school's
environmental performance.
The
Eco-Schools Award Scheme
The Eco-Schools award scheme can help schools to:
improve the
school environment
reduce litter
and waste
reduce fuel
and water bills
increase
environmental awareness
involve the
local community
gain business
sponsorship
gain local
publicity
Resources
Eco-Schools
produce a range of useful resources. For
example, the free Eco-Schools pack includes the
Eco-Schools handbook, an environmental review
booklet and 'Litter and Waste', a book of
curriculum ideas adaptable for all ages.
There are also colourful newsletters, postcards
and access to national and international
contacts.
