| A survey of your local
environment and its resources for your community |
|
|
|
This
Citizenship project was designed and run by
Birmingham teachers to create opportunities for
schools to improve their local environment.
The primary and
secondary schools who took part in the project
carried out a survey of their own communities,
identifying key features and resources.
The project began
with teacher training events held at Rotunda 15
to introduce the “Mapping the City” resource
pack. The evidence collected by the pupils
has been used to produce action plans of
recommendations for improving their
locality. The project culminated in an
event where they had the opportunity to present
proposals to elected City representatives and
officers of the Council.

| Making Our School Environment
Safe |
| Secondary School Councils
- young people's solutions
|
|
| This initiative was
devised as a framework which would encourage
twenty secondary schools to establish a school
council in order to discuss ways of making their
school environment safer. Young people at each
school carried out a consultation exercise, came
up with some solutions and established
priorities in order to access a budget £200 to
carry out improvements.
