Performance Management
New Performance Regulations for teachers
These are coming into schools from September 2008 and it is important for all teachers to know about them as they will impact on your career development, your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and, on the Upper PAT Spine, on pay progression. The School Effectiveness unit and Schools HR are working closely with schools to ensure that information and training is made available to all teachers.

Local workshops – materials and support
Workshops were held in late Autumn 2006 and early Spring term 2007 for headteachers to ensure that they understand the new Performance Management arrangements and how to plan for its implementation in September 2008.

Further training for schools
The School Effectiveness unit is currently working with the Training & Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to develop training, especially for Team Leaders (Reviewers). There are about 6000 reviewers needed in Birmingham schools. It is anticipated that this training is best delivered for most schools via clusters / consortia. To organise training for your cluster contact the School Effectiveness unit.

TDA / RIG National materials
The Rewards & Incentives Group (RIG) through TDA is producing a range of material to help schools to implement revised Performance Management including a Model Performance Management policy, additional briefing materials for use in schools, an on-line Self Assessment tool to help schools to identify where to focus their efforts, in-school support materials and "how to" sheets.  We shall link to these from this site as they become available.

Investors in People (IiP) in Schools
IiP provides a framework for schools to involve and develop all staff (teaching and support) and it is vital that everyone who works in school has access to appropriate training and development.  Visit the IiP website and download the tools or contact the IiP Advisers at School Effectiveness for more information.

Governors and Performance Management
Governors have a key role in the revised arrangements, including acting as the reviewer for the headteacher. The most up to date information is available through this area of the site and also at local level briefings for governors can be arranged through clusters / consortia.  Contact the Adviser for Governors in the School Effectiveness unit.
