School Workforce Development
This web site has been designed to give headteachers, teachers, support staff and governors access to information and strategies to support school workforce development.

Transformation of the school workforce aims to ensure that all pupils have access to the best possible learning opportunities as well as making teaching and supporting learners truly rewarding careers.

Workforce reform is not an end in itself. The focus is on developing a school workforce which has the professionalism, teamwork and leadership to deliver further sustainable improvements in standards, while at the same time narrowing achievement gaps. It is also a major factor in schools playing their vital part in delivering the outcomes for children which are part of Extended Schools and Every Child Matters.

Schools need to harness the knowledge and commitment of all those in their workforce if they are to continue to improve children’s educational experiences, raise their levels of achievement and ensure their wellbeing.

That means all schools need access to high quality, relevant training and development so that staff can keep their skills and knowledge up to date. For individuals working in school, across all job roles, it is vital that you have access to information about the training and development opportunities available to you to help you to do the best you can for your pupils and for your career.

Transforming Education: School Effectiveness and Schools HR are jointly responsible for updating this site, liaising with others including Schools and Governor Support and Extended Schools with the aim of giving an integrated package of advice and support to schools.
