The Energy Certification for Schools Programme

Thankfully things seem to be gathering pace in relation to climate change, sustainability and environmental issues especially in the area of energy management within schools.

The 'must see' web site from the DfES can be found at www.est.org.uk/schools  - or click the Energy Saving Trust link shown on this page.

The site is practical, informative and supportive on many levels, presenting opportunities to enhance school management and curriculum development, even to those schools currently leading in terms of exemplary practice in energy/utility management.

The Green Roadshow

The Green Roadshow was conceived in response to the ever increasing pressures upon our fragile eco-system.  Its unique variety of fascinating exhibits, combined with a continuous programme of environmentally themed entertainment ensures that there is always something for everyone to see and do.  All of the displays in the the Roadshows are attended by people with many years of practical experience in their various fields.

Visit www.greenroadshow.co.uk to see their lively and graphically rich web site.  This is a great way for all the family to become involved in an exciting range of environmentally-friendly activities.

A message from Tony Howell
I would like to welcome you to the Sustainability web site, and to ask you to consider the vital work undertaken throughout Birmingham to promote vital issues surrounding our environment. The work of the Sustainability Action Pioneers is of particular interest to me, and I have no hesitation in commending this group to you all.

Birmingham aspires to be a ‘learning city’ in which people live in harmony with each other and identify with their community, place and neighbourhood; which they

perceive as safe; where there are signs of economic prosperity and voluntary sector activity; where services are well-managed and responsive - in short, a learning city of flourishing neighbourhoods.

We believe there is great value in providing information about our services and sharing wider ideas about education generally and school improvement in particular - and ways in which learning achieves success for all. In this way we are able to engage effectively with the learning community that is Birmingham and ensure that we learn from each other.
