Student Support
Financial support for students

Over recent months the DfES has been reviewing the arrangements for administering student support.  Ministers’ vision for the arrangements is that they should be easy for students to use, simple to administer, “joined up”, flexible and in line with the aspirations of the Modernising Government agenda.  Improving the administration will help in increasing the numbers entering Higher Education.

Students applying for support for the first time in the current academic year will complete a single application form to establish their level of support.  The form has appendices covering additional questions relevant only to the living costs grants such as DSAs.

Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to find out more about the scheme - and other useful information students have requested.

From September 2006, course costs and financial support arrangements for university and higher education students are changing. Student loans are being extended to cover increased tuition fees, while universities and colleges are making millions of pounds available in bursaries and scholarships.

The Directgov student finance portal has been built to help students find out exactly how much financial help they are entitled to - from both the government and from universities and colleges - and how to get hold of it.  Click on the button below to get the money!
