How does the Pupil Watch Team assist pupils?

If the team of Attendance Support Workers stops you in the street, and your head teacher has authorised your absence, a check is made with your school.

If your absence is unauthorised, you are returned to school or a place of safety.

Some young people are introduced to the Connexions service, to talk to an adviser, who can discuss all the options available to them.

The Pupil Watch Team is here to safeguard pupils.  If you absent yourself from school:

  • You will miss out on an education that will affect your chances of getting a good job.
  • You are more likely to become a victim of criminals, eg:  drug dealers, paedophiles or muggers.
  • You are more likely to be drawn in to a criminal lifestyle.
  • Your parents may be fined or sent to prison (Section 444 Education Act 1996.)

You will know we are the Pupil Watch team because we are accompanied by a uniformed police officer.  All have photo identification and any returns to home or school are in a marked pupil watch or police vehicle.
