Pupil Watch in partnership with
businesses

The opening of the Bullring in Birmingham city centre in September 2003 provided a target for children and their parents and young people shopping. On discussion with security staff at the Bullring it was agreed that: |
- Future Pupil Watch patrol plans would be sent to security staff in advance so all staff could be briefed as to why Pupil Watch are working in and around the Bullring.
- The security staff would provide the Pupil Watch team with a security radio to enable the security staff to share information of young peoples location and provide security assistance if requested.
Pupil Watch made a successful bid in March 2004 to Local Government Office West Midlands to enable the project to support the core business of patrols.
- Part of the money awarded to Pupil Watch was used to buy a Retail Crime Operation radio providing a valuable link to over 200 retail outlets across Birmingham.
Raising awareness within the business community included identifying intelligence from the database to support locations where most contacts had been made regarding parental condoned absence.
- Pupil Watch carried out a leaflet and poster drop promoting Education Welfare Service, Pupil Watch and addressing issues of parental condoned absence in the following areas:
- One Stop Perry Barr
- Erdington High Street
- Kings Heath High Street
- Acocks Green High Street
- Governors Shopping Centre Northfield
- Kingstanding Circle
- Hawthorne Road Shopping Centre
- Gracechurch Shopping Centre
