The
Drum
Dedicated to
promoting African, Asian and Caribbean Arts
Based at the
former Aston Hippodrome site, The Drum is Birmingham's
newest arts venue dedicated to the promotion of African,
Asian and Caribbean arts and cultural activities, and
contains unique features, making it one of the most
lavish, hi-tech art centres around.
The opening of this
centre heralds a new era for the development of Black
Arts in Britain. Housing
two auditoriums, an exhibition space, café, bar and
shops, The Drum will provide a much needed platform for
local, national and international artists and is the
place where everyone can experience contemporary urban
culture.
The Drum's mixed
programme covers a selection of performance and visual
arts activities, so you're bound to find something that
appeals to you - whatever your taste.
For an example of the
Drum's diverse programme, from 29th January
through until 11th March 2000, the Drum hosts
the exhibition "Africa 2000" - Contemporary
Art from South African Townships, which features
displays of work by southern African artists from the
Funda Community College in Soweto.
