Challenger Learning Centre
National Space Science Centre (NSSC)
The Challenger Learning Centre
provides exciting educational programmes based on
simulating the experience of astronauts and ground
control operators.
In these state of the art surroundings, which
resembles the NASA Mission Control Centre and a Space
Station, children assume the role of scientists and
engineers who encounter problems of navigation, ecology,
robotics, chemistry, physics and more.
The Challenger
Learning Centre is the first public facility of the
National Space Science Centre, a brainchild of the
University of Leicester and Leicester City Council. The National
Space Science Centre is the first organisation outside
of USA and Canada to have been granted a licence by the
Board of Challenger Centres for Space Science Education
- an achievement which reflects the scientific and
educational credibility provided by the University of
Leicester, and the strength and imagination of the Space
Centre concept.
The Challenger Learning Centre will be
an invaluable resource for schools, teachers and youth
groups, backed by an educational centre serving the NSSC
as a whole. Initially
there will be two Challenger missions available at the
Centre - Rendezvous with a
Comet, and Mission to Mars. |
