Other educational professionals involved
The LEA operates a range of education services that may become involved in the identification and assessment of, and provision for, your child’s special educational
needs.
Educational Psychologists
Visiting Teacher Service
The VTS may become involved at any stage. A teacher will visit the school on a regular basis to work with your child and to support the school in meeting particular needs of your child (e.g. hearing or visual impairments).
Behaviour Support Services
The BSS will become involved when the school requests support in meeting a child’s behavioural needs. Any support given can be within the school, or in a behaviour unit, if the parents and school think that this is more appropriate. Intervention here is to enable the child to learn strategies to help them to manage their own behaviour more
successfully.
Pupil & School Support
Support from the PSS comes in the form of a specialist teacher who assesses your child’s learning needs and supports the school, parents and the pupil in identifying appropriate targets and teaching approaches to maximise learning
outcomes.
Portage Service
Portage services offer you help at home, before your child moves on to nursery or school, to support the development of your child’s play, communication, relationships and learning within your family.
