Your School Network The following support pages contain a variety of information and troubleshooting advice for the Network in your School or Centre. "Help! My network is down." If you have suffered a partial or total loss of access to resources on your Network, don't panic, help is at hand. Click here, or on the 'Diagnosing Faults' menu on the left. As well as some general advice for common problems, you can download some flowcharts to help diagnose the fault and get you up and running as soon as possible. What is a Network? If you have computers linked together to share information or access the Internet then you have a Network. You can probably recognise certain equipment on your network, workstations and printers for example, but there are other, less known devices too. For example: - Servers (including Proxy, File and SQL)
- Switches (including Hubs)
- Routers (for accessing the outside world)
- UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
Network Administration As well as support for when things go wrong, these pages contain technical advice for setting up a new (or configuring) a network. Unsure of which IP address you should use? Click on the 'network administration' link in the left hand menu. eTutorials As a replacement for the standard paper instructions, check out these electronic versions. Emergency Visits As all our staff are constantly in demand, it is not always possible for a technician to visit as soon as we would like, however, we always give priority to schools who have suffered a network-wide problem and endeavour to visit as soon as possible. Visits in these situations are usually free-of-charge. Remote Support As an additional service, Link2ICT can install remote support software on various computers within your school (usually your servers and main workstations). The software (called NetSupport) allows us to see what you see on your computer screen, and take control to perform various troubleshooting and remedial actions. However, we would be unable to gain access to your computer without your knowledge and permission. If you are interested in the Remote Support service, please click here. |
