School Kit
Many staff in AAL schools in Birmingham have already benefited from School Kit (aka "Greg Butler" training on learning scaffolding. This Web site contains many useful resources and training materials. To get the full benefit of this innovative site you will need to pay a subscription.

Tablet PC
This link is to the Microsoft Tablet PC site which contains loads of useful information, case studies, user forums and some "cool" downloads.  Tablet PC is a fully functioning PC running the Windows XP Professional operating system - Tablet PC Edition.

Features of Tablet PC:

  • A pen operated device.
  • Can be used in both landscape or portrait modes.
  • Is available in 'slate' (no keyboard or mouse) and 'clamshell' (has a keyboard built-in) formats.
  • Has in-built wireless network connectivity.
  • Has in-built handwriting recognition which does not need training.
  • Pen input makes graphics programmes like Windows Paint much easier to use.
  • Allows hand written notes and drawing to be entered directly into Office 2002 applications.
  • Allows any application to print to the Journal Note Writer (a new application for Tablet PC only) where annotations can be added.
  • Has a Sticky Notes feature which can be used to store hand written notes and sounds. These can be dragged and dropped or pasted into other applications. Good for marking?
  • All Office XP Applications have “digital ink” functionality built-in, so for example one can write on top of PowerPoint presentations and then chose whether or not to save these annotations. This gives Tablet PC much of the functionality of an interactive whiteboard.
If you have discovered any other usual AAL Web links then please submit them to keith_edwards@birmingham.gov.uk
