Education for the Twenty-First
Century Birmingham,
along with some other LEA's around the country, is embarking upon an ambitious
and exciting project which will provide all pupils with their own, personal learning
device. The goal of one-to-one access to technology is to be realised through an
'e-Learning Foundation', a Charitable Trust.
The Trust will finance the project
in a number of schools by attracting voluntary donations from parents,
employees, and the general community. Schools will also receive a full package
of support and maintenance to help ensure the success of the project.
AAL
– Potentially the single most
significant educational initiative in decades
The
project will transform the way in which children learn in classrooms across the
City, and will extend learning beyond the confines of the school day and the
school building. It is expected to have a significant effect upon standards of
achievement, and will also contribute to the creation of a technologically
literate workforce in the next generation. This will enable citizens to take
advantage of shifting employment patterns, as new-technology employers are
attracted to the City.
