Birmingham Health Education Unit

The Health Education Unit has an extensive collection of over 9,000 teaching resources and publications, selected to support teachers and others involved in teaching PSHE and citizenship. Topics include:

This is not an exhaustive list. There are over 30 topic areas in total for which we can provide resources.

Suitable for nursery, primary, secondary or special schools, many of these resources can also be used within other areas of the curriculum such as Science, English, Food Technology and PE.

The Resource Centre operates a weekly delivery and collection service. This is service is free and offers unlimited use to all Subscribers.

No matter how near or far away your school is, you still have unrestricted use of our resource centre.

Full details of the resources are in extensive catalogue (available on request). The types of resources the Health Education Unit has are:

Equipment: including anatomical models (skeletons, torsos, teeth, heart, brain), replica food models, instruments (microscopes, pedometer), resuscitation models, crying baby, organ/skeleton tunics
Teaching resources: including teaching packs for use in the classroom, information for teachers about sensitive issues, packs suitable for use on INSET and policy guidelines.
Videos: including videos, CD-ROMs, audiotapes and slides.
Pupil books: including fiction, non-fiction, big books and class sets of books

If you have not visited the Resource Centre before, it might be worthwhile arranging a visit, so that you can view some of the 9,000 resources.  Advice on the selection and use of resources is part of the service offered. Please contact the Resources Librarian, for more details.
