Designed to show pupils the many different types of fruit and vegetables and the variety of ways in which we can eat fruit and vegetables.

The books have full colour photographs throughout. Both books show a range of cooking methods and how to buy fruit and vegetables that are processed (but still healthy) such as frozen and tinned and also as juice.

It’s fun to eat fruit and vegetables pack
This pack is designed to enable Foundation and Key Stage 1 children to learn about fruit and vegetables and the need to eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day through a fun and interactive way. This pack was developed with Balsall Heath Surestart and so is suitable for teachers and parents to use with children.

The pack includes: Fruit and vegetable cards, photos and words: 50 full colour photos and 50 word cards for children to match words with cards. There are 2 sets of each pack to enable children to play games such as pairs.

Board game: using the fruit and vegetable cards the children can play a game with the aim of seeing who can be the first to have 5 portions of fruit and veg. The game shows children all the different combinations of fruit and veg that people can have to reach the 5-a-day target.

CD: this has 2 sections. The child section enables the child to match words with pictures of fruit and vegetables, counting fruit and vegetables, play games based on fruit and vegetables. plus a copy of the small book on fruit and vegetables  (see above). Teacher section enables selection of bingo cards to be customised and printed.

Breakfast Club Evaluation report
This independent evaluation report covers the Breakfast Clubs that operated in Birmingham and were evaluated after 18 months. Headteachers, teachers, supervisors, classroom assistants, parents, guardians, pupils were interviewed as were the strategic decision makers. Everyone interviewed had something positive to say about Breakfast Clubs. The operations of the Breakfast Clubs, their impact on family life, the impact on school life (both from the teachers’ and the pupils’ points of view) were examined. The knock-on effects of the breakfast clubs in terms of employment and education prospects of the parents were also examined. For anyone wishing to start Breakfast Clubs – or to apply for funding for a similar project – this report may be invaluable.

School Nutrition Action Group Evaluation report
This report examines the impact of establishing School Nutrition Action Groups in the majority of Birmingham secondary schools.
