Governor Elections
A step-by-step guide

Parent and Staff governors play the vital role on governing bodies of providing a current parental / staff viewpoint, and it is a good idea, therefore, to try to fill vacancies as soon as they occur.  They are elected by other parents / staff at the school.

There is a simple 3-step process for election, taking 3 weeks.  In most schools the Headteacher manages the election.

  • Step 1 – request nominations.  Model forms are available via the links below.
  • Step 2 – conduct a ballot – where the number of valid nominations exceeds the number of vacancies.  Again, model forms are available below.
  • Step 3 – publish results.  A model form is available below.
