National Strategy – Gifted and Talented
All Birmingham schools have been offered National Strategy training for a Leading Teacher and the opportunity to attend termly G&T networks. Funding for development work is placed in each school’s personalisation budget.

There are two key aspects to the role of leading teachers for G&T education:

  1. The development of whole-school self-evaluation and improvement planning for the provision and outcomes for G&T pupils.
  2. The development of effective classroom practice for G&T pupils
Click here for more details: http://ygt.dcsf.gov.uk/FileLinks/193_leadingteachers_role_Oct07.pdf

Schools will also have a G&T coordinator who will:

  1. Coordinate and develop whole school extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities.
  2. Update the whole school policy for G&T.
  3. Register and track G&T students comprising approximately 10% of the school population.
  4. Link with other schools to provide joint activities, enrichment and staff development.
  5. Consider ways to improve liaison at each transition point to enhance continuity and progression for gifted and talented pupils.
  6. Develop and implement a programme for monitoring and evaluation of the school’s provision and its impact on their gifted and talented cohort.
