Child Protection
Child Protection Team for Schools and education Services

The Local Authority has statutory responsibilities for Child Protection under the Children Act 1989 and the 2004 Children Act.

The team is responsible for:

  • Providing representation to the Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board (BSCB)
  • Providing written guidance to schools and education services within the Children, Young People & Families Directorate
  • Providing advice, guidance and practical support in cases involving allegations concerning a member of staff
  • Maintaining a database of Designated Senior Persons and monitoring uptake of required training in Child Protection
  • Co-ordinating with the Health Education Unit the to provide relevant Child Protection Training
