Local, National
and European Initiatives
The Year of Europe 2001 initiative is a truly
international collaborative effort, with contributions
from institutions at every level - from individual
schools to pan-European organisations.
The European Perspective highlights
the activities arising from the European Year of
Languages and the roles of CILT and the Comenius Centres.
Special events include Europe Day, European Day of
Languages, the Languages Conference at the ICC, the Year
of Europe Festival, and the European Young People's
Parliament.
The National Perspective addresses
the issues of developing school improvement and
citizenship in a European context, and the role of the
seven working groups. Support
for the Year of Europe provided through Birmingham's
Education Development Plan is described in the Local Perspective,
specifying focus areas for projects and activities.
