Teachers as Interpreters
Open to any school staff member (maximum 12) who is bilingual to work with a professional writer to identify and then translate a piece of literature from another language not English.  The original work and its translation would then be printed to form the 4th volume in the “School Words” collection and distributed to every school/library.

'Snapshots' Challenge
A collection of visual images, poems and songs to represent Europe and its cities.  The collection will be exhibited on the Year of Europe Website and in the Children’s Gallery on Hoardings.

'Sounds Like Europe'
A CD Compilation on “sounds”  - music and song - that captures the diversity of Europe and its talented people. Entries will be submitted on tape – selected entries will then be rehearsed and recorded.

Showcase Arts Day - Citizens of Europe
This day will draw together both the Year of Europe and the launch event for Year of Citizenship 2002.  A day of open rehearsal for local schools and an afternoon/evening performance for VIPs and guests, it would involve a cross city selection of quality dance, drama, music, literature, storytelling etc.
