Equality and Diversity
Policies and strategies for equal opportunities

The Equality and Diversity Team sets the direction for the implementation of the City Council’s Equal Opportunities policies and strategies, both in terms of employment and service delivery.  The team provides equality advice and guidance to schools, service managers, communities and external bodies.

Key functions of the Equality and Diversity Team are:
  • To lead on the co-ordination and implementation of the Corporate Equality Scheme within the Education and Lifelong Learning Service.

  • To provide a corporate equalities consultancy service addressing issues affecting schools and the Education and Lifelong Learning Service.

  • To provide advice and guidance on the application of equalities directives.

  • To lead in the Education and Lifelong Learning Service relationship with minority ethnic communities, voluntary organisations, supplementary schools, other minority groups and the community.

  • To co-ordinate, monitor and promote equality in terms of employment and service delivery, to ensure that services meet the needs of all local people.

  • To promote, establish and develop a wide range of corporate initiatives, projects and programmes that aim to address equality issues within the Education and Lifelong Learning Service and schools.
