On Monday 14
October 2002 approximately 150 pupils from almost 30 Primary
schools, 3 Learning Support Centres and 2 Secondary schools
attended this exciting event in Centenary Square - the
launch of Excellence in Cities week!
The event, which celebrated
the innovative work of Learning Mentors, was also attended
by stars from the world of sport, including County
Cricketer Wasim Khan, Commonwealth Games discus thrower
Kevin Brown and Olympic high jumper Geoff Parsons.
Exhibitions featuring the
work of Birmingham’s Learning Mentors was also on display
during the afternoon in the International Convention Centre,
and the Rotunda Showcase on Thursday 17 October featured
impressive work contributed by schools from across
Birmingham.
