| Key ideas in the Beacon Schools
programme |
|
 | Building partnerships with other
schools: Beacon schools
enter into a dialogue with a view to sharing ideas
which have led to success in one environment and
enabling partners to reflect on whether the
principles and approaches that have been employed
can be adapted to achieve similar results in their
own schools.

|
 | The first 75 Beacon schools began
working in September 1998. Through a wide range of
activities, including seminars, in-service training,
consultancy, mentoring, they have been sharing ideas
and approaches to teaching and school management and
passing on their expertise in a number of curriculum
subjects.

 | New Beacon schools were created
from September 1999. This major expansion was the first step towards establishing a comprehensive
network across the country, enabling Beacon
schools to be accessible to as many other schools as
possible. |
