Programme
Objectives
All secondary
schools in Birmingham will have access to a City Learning
Centre (CLC). Each secondary school is a member of one of
six networks, each of which contains a City Learning
Centre.
City Learning Centres will:
 | Improve access to, and
use of, the latest education technology by pupils and
adults.
 | Improve attainment
levels through the use of that technology.
 | Improve employment
prospects. |
 | Act as test beds for
innovation and new ways of teaching and learning. |
| |
City Learning Centres provide:
 | High quality
accommodation.
 | A very high level of ICT
resource provided mainly by networks of PCs.
 | Direct access to NGfL
and BGfL.
 | Access to high
technology teaching and learning aids such as
interactive white boards, video editing, video
conferencing etc.
 | Access to variety of
software and courses not normally available to
schools.
 | Access to careers
information, education and guidance. |
 | Access to facilities
outside normal school hours. |
| | | | |
City Learning Centres will:
 | Be available to student
and staff from the network schools through a booking
system.
 | Work not only with the
secondary schools in their network, but also with
other City secondary schools and the wider community.
 | Develop strategies to
enable students to integrate work done in the CLC with
work in their own schools.
 | Collaborate with other
CLCs and partners such as FE colleges, libraries, and
hospitals.
 | Be staffed with a
Manager, Deputy Manager, technician and Administrative
Assistant.
 | Monitor the use made of
the CLC resources.

Birmingham's Overview
 | The six City Learning

Excellence in Cities programme. |
 | Excellence in Cities has
been funded partly by the DfEE and partly by
Birmingham. |
 | The activities of each
CLC are coordinated through the network of secondary
