Confederation of Education Service Managers (ConfEd)

The Confederation of Education Service Managers, (ConfEd) is the professional association representing education officers, managers and advisers who work in the management of local education authorities in England and Wales.

The Confederation was officially launched on the 13th July 2002, by the Rt. Hon. Estelle Morris MP, the then Secretary of State for Education and Skills. The launch was the result of bringing together the Society of Education Officers (SEO), the Association of Chief Education Officers (ACEO) and the Society of Chief Inspectors and Advisers (SCIA) to establish a single voice for education managers.

The prime purpose of ConfEd is to contribute to raising and maintaining high standards in the education service, seeking to influence and initiate national developments in education and in the profession through regular contact and close working with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and other national bodies. It will also continue to extend to accommodate other relevant networks and national organisations over the next few years to further secure a united professional voice promoting the interests of the education service in the public sector.

For further information and membership details please visit the ConfEd web site.

Learning Through Landscapes

Learning through Landscapes is the National School Grounds Charity.  We believe that learning and playing outside is an essential part of child's development and by improving outdoor spaces in education and childcare we can make a real difference to the quality of every child’s life.

Since 1990, LTL has been providing training, resources and support, and developing programmes and research that advance understanding in the better design, use and care of school grounds.

Today, school and early years communities and those working to improve educational environments turn to LTL for guidance on making improvements outside that benefit children.

School grounds are essential and unique spaces, providing diverse opportunities for understanding, achievement and attainment and for healthy exercise and creative play.  LTL focuses on giving children and young people a say in the way these spaces are used and improved. Our work allows children to create and nurture their own environment, helping their self-esteem to grow and behaviour improve, along with their potential to learn and achieve.

Please visit the Learning Through Landscapes web site.

Pillar Consultancy

Pillar Consultancy was created in response to a demand for an independent body, within the public sector, with specialist knowledge of property and building issues. The consultancy accepted the challenge of the 1990's, to innovate in the face of great change. It offers an exciting and unique opportunity to supplement in-house skills in a situation where it is difficult to manage more efficiently, give value for money and remain publicly accountable.

It is a central development group offering research, development and design services predominantly to the Property Departments of Local Authorities, and was inaugurated in 1989 being the successor organisation to SCOLA (the Second Consortium of Local Authorities). It now administers the SCOLA steel frame and and component arrangements. Since 1961approximately 2,000 projects have been constructed using the SCOLA steel frame and many more projects have benefited from the use of component supply arrangements.

Please visit the Pillar Consultancy web site.

I&DEA

I&DEA has established 'communities of practice for local government' to support networking across the public and private sectors. It is freely accessible to support knowledge development and sharing. It includes 4P's BSF Community of Practice which provides details of numerous forthcoming events to provide information on all things relating to BSF including conferences, seminars and events etc (you can even add your own events)
