The purpose and activities of EBDOG

EBDOG provides an opportunity for building and development officers, normally working within the confines of their own Local Authority, to:

  •  discuss the impact of proposed changes and issues arising

  •  meet in a different forum

  •  share experience and knowledge.

Constitution

Given the increasing significance of EBDOG as the principle means of Childrens Services Authorities engaging direct with DfES, the need for more formal terms of reference was identified. A formal constitution was shared with members at the May 2006 conference. A copy of the document is also available here

Conferences

Conferences are held twice yearly, usually in May and November.  Each conference, organised and hosted by one of the member Local Authorities, includes the sharing and discussion of policy developments with DfES, workshops on matters of specific interest and local school visits.

Further details are given on the Conferences page.

Executive Committee

An Executive Committee (previously referred to as the Standing Group) has been established to provide a forum to respond to the many initiatives proposed by the DfES.  Members are often included in policy development issues by DfES. It is seen to compliment the existing framework operated by DfES.

Upcoming dates and notes of recent meetings are given on the Executive Committee page.  For further information please contact one of the current Executive Committee members.

DfES

Information regarding school building design, resources and finance is available on the Teachernet web site www.teachernet.gov.uk/management/resourcesfinanceand building General guidance, design guides/building bulletins together with news updates including Schools Capital twice yearly letter to Local Authorities and a Schools Capital contact list are available.

School Building Network

Whilst EBDOG conferences will primarily focus upon strategy and capital policy, the School Building Network organised by Pillar Consultancy organises regional events to cover selected technical issues in more detail. Nominated EBDOG Executive Committee members meet with representatives from DfES, School Building Network and Partnership for Schools at the Childrens Service Communication Group to co-ordinate the dissemination of information and good practice.
