Pupil Connect
Safeguarding Birmingham pupils' access to education
The Pupil Connect team was established in November 2001 to fulfil seven essential aspects of the Local Authority’s Education Other Than at School (EOTAS) Policy.
  • To effectively identify, track and trace all school aged children who are lost from education or found not to be placed on a school roll.
  • To track these children into mainstream school or place in an appropriate educational placement, where possible, within 20 school days of first notification.

  • To ensure that all lost pupils are traced and connected to appropriate support networks.

  • To establish and maintain effective links and protocols with other key stakeholders and local authorities concerned with the protection and support of lost children.

  • To identify and fund appropriate provision otherwise than in mainstream schools and to link with these providers on behalf of individual pupils and their parents or carers.

  • To provide a coordination and information sharing network for these alternative provisions.

  • To evaluate the quality of such provision, in light of OFSTED guidance, and to list all approved providers within an alternative provision directory.
