Managers have a wide range of experiences in early years settings. Many have
undertaken management training and all are expected to participate in relevant training.

All staff receive regular supervision and are provided with personal development plans, to promote/enhance their development and utilise their skills to their full potential.

All staff receive training and developmental support from within the education department and external courses.

Termly Link Advisor visits take place, with a set agenda focusing on curriculum and evaluating play within the foundation stage.

Monthly Early Years Support Officer support visits are used to provide management support and
check standards; examine Health & Safety; budgetary matters, etc.

Quality Framework – nurseries can receive Bronze, Silver or Gold awards for quality.

Birmingham's Community Day Nurseries use the Framework for Intervention as a means of managing children’s behaviour in the nursery setting.

Nurseries have been able to attract funding and professional support to enable them to provide a range of services to children, such as through the Visiting Teacher Service and Portage scheme, libraries’ play and stay sessions, sensory areas, etc.
