Nursery provision across Birmingham There are 852 places for Birmingham children, in 23 Community Day
Nurseries, managed and maintained by the Education Service.
- Each nursery has a quota
of free places retained for children who meet the
criteria set down by Birmingham
City Council's Corporate Priorities for nursery
attendance.
These
places require a referral from a social worker, health
visitor or other professional.
- 150 places are retained
for fee-paying Birmingham City Council employees.
- The weekly fee from 01 April 2008 is £130.00.
- City Council staff apply
to the Martineau Centre for a place, all other
applicants approach the nursery of their choice
- There are a limited number
of places available for other working parents. Parents
should make their own referral for a place.

Most
nurseries provide places for students who can attract
bursaries.

Opening
hours are predominantly 7:30am – 6pm for working
parents.
Children on free places are entitled to core
hours approximately 9am – 3pm, although in certain
circumstances these can be extended on a paid basis.

The
nurseries are open 52 weeks of the year and cater for
children from 6 weeks old.

Community Day Nurseries deliver a quality service and
make every effort that children’s needs are met,
however complex these may be.
