Community Day Nurseries
Nursery provision across Birmingham

There are 852 places for Birmingham children,  in 23 Community Day Nurseries, managed and maintained by the Education Service.

  • Each nursery has a quota of free places retained for children who meet the criteria set down by Birmingham City Council's Corporate Priorities for nursery attendance.

These places require a referral from a social worker, health visitor or other professional.

  • 150 places are retained for fee-paying Birmingham City Council employees.

  • The weekly fee from 01 April 2008 is £130.00.

  • City Council staff apply to the Martineau Centre for a place, all other applicants approach the nursery of their choice

  • There are a limited number of places available for other working parents.  Parents should make their own referral for a place.

  • Most nurseries provide places for students who can attract bursaries.

  • Opening hours are predominantly 7:30am – 6pm for working parents.

Children on free places are entitled to core hours approximately 9am – 3pm, although in certain circumstances these can be extended on a paid basis.

  • The nurseries are open 52 weeks of the year and cater for children from 6 weeks old.

  • The Community Day Nurseries deliver a quality service and make every effort that children’s needs are met, however complex these may be.
