Free Places
Free places in Community Day Nurseries are based on the following Corporate Priorities agreed by Birmingham City Council

This list, agreed at Cabinet, March 2004, is not to represent a strict priority order: it is recognised that most of the criteria can include a wide range of levels of need. However it is intended that children for whom the local authority has specific responsibilities will normally take precedence.
  • Children on the Child Protection Register and their siblings.

  • Children for whom there are concerns about their physical and emotional well being as a result of the care they receive or the environment in which they live (including looked after children).

  • Children who are being investigated in respect of Child Protection concerns.

  • Children whose behaviour and / or development give serious cause for concern.

  • Children with disabilities, including those with a Statement of Educational Need or referred for a statement to be prepared.

  • Children with parents who are unable to provide care as a result of their physical disability, learning disability, mental health problem or illness.

These priorities were adopted in 1998 and passed through Social Services & Education committees, and were an appendix to reports to committees in 2001 about the fees structure.  Any amendments to these priorities will be shown on this page, which will always be kept up to date.
