|
This takes the form
of a half hour pre-INSET meeting with senior staff to
discuss any issues particular to the school; 2 x 1
hour INSET sessions with midday supervisors to give
strategies for positive management of lunchtime
behaviour with a focus on the issues for your school;
a half-hour meeting with senior staff to feedback any
issues. |
- Stories to Challenge
Behaviour
|
A half-day practical
workshop provides participants with a host of new and
exciting ways to address challenging behaviour in the
classroom. It focuses on the ways in which stories and
story telling can be used to address issues such as
poor behaviour, low motivation and disaffection with
learning. |
- Introduction to
Circle Time
|
This INSET is aimed
at colleagues who have little or no experience of
using Circle Time. Participants learn how to plan,
organise and run sessions for their pupils. |
|
This session looks
at the organisation of Circle Time and explores some
of the common difficulties in implementing successful
Circle Time. It is expected that participants will
have had some experience of Circle Time in their
setting. |
|
This introduction is
especially relevant to staff working in Y2 to Y6. It
looks at setting up a Circle of Friends as a
supportive network for socially isolated pupils. A
structured process and helpful guidelines make it
simple to implement. |
- Pastoral support
programmes and managed moves
|
Both PSPs and
Managed Moves have been suggested by the DCSF as
strategies for supporting children who are in danger
of exclusion. Participants are introduced to practical
guidance that has been issued to Birmingham schools. |
|
This supports TA’s
over five sessions to know more about and consolidate
skills in behaviour related issues. The course
includes modules such as Social Skills, Managing
Behaviour, Supporting Children with ODD, ASD and ADHD,
Creative Working and Circle Time. |
|
This session looks
at a how emotions shape our actions and how we can
think individually and collectively to enrich
emotional understanding. Staff are helped to process
emotions that might otherwise cause pupils to show
rage or despair and to be unable to learn effectively. |
* New for September 2008- Promoting Responsibility: Offending and
Male Perceptions Today
|
A Theatre in
Education approach to challenging pupil, especially
male perceptions of modern day roles. |
| Pupil
Support - Small Group Support (Secondary) |
|
The session explores
what is meant by anger management and considers how to
recognise the early signs of anger. Strategies to
manage anger as it happens and how to reduce the
likelihood of further incidents are discussed. |
|
This session covers
a variety of strategies to reduce and resolve conflict
situations. We also consider the skills and attitudes
the children need to learn to manage conflict for
themselves. |
- Positively Girls
- Positively Boys
|
This course is
usually run for secondary pupils with presentation
shared by school and BSS staff to develop your own
skills as educators. It addresses some of the issues
that many girls and boys encounter on a day-to-day
basis. The course is a single gender course for pupils
who are underachieving, have difficulties in making
positive relationships or have low self worth. |
