Support in Centres

Teaching Centres

The Education Service has a statutory obligation to provide education for excluded pupils. To do this there are nine Behaviour Support Centres around the city. These make up a single Pupil Referral Unit. In most cases, we allocate pupils a centre place dependent upon their age and where they live.  We try to offer the following support if needed:

  • Continued educational opportunities

  • Reintegration to new educational provision

  • Contribution to statutory assessment

  • Support for pupils excluded for more than 15 days

  • Support for pupils returning from secure provision

Shared provision

Some pupils come out of their school to Behaviour Support centres part time for a few weeks to address specific difficulties with behaviour.

School Refusing Pupils

Behaviour Support can provide education in a centre for school refusing pupils, subject to available space.  There is a charge for this service.
