Policy, training and guidance

Should physical intervention be required in an Education setting it must be an appropriate response to the circumstances.

A model policy has been produced by the Local Education Authority to guide staff in this.  The purpose of this policy and associated guidance is to support schools and education settings in meeting the needs of the school / setting and those of individual pupils, backed by an opportunity for appropriate training.

The policy stresses the importance of documentation to underpin and support the whole process and people involved.
Training

Training provides a range of important support and strategies that include preferred methods of de-escalation:

  • behaviour plans involving positive handling
  • incident reports
  • risk assessments
  • concerns and complaints
  • recording, reporting monitoring
  • evaluating and allowing authorities/services/schools to develop policies specifically for their own needs

A range of training, advice and support can be provided to help with care and control or risk assessment in schools and other education settings. For further information or to discuss your specific needs please contact:
