Telephone Network
Centrex telephone systems

Birmingham City Council has a contract with ‘Telewest Broadband’ for the provision of its city-wide 303 and 464 telephone network to Central Administration buildings and offices.

Schools and the City's Centrex Telephone Network on 303 and 464

If you dial 303 or 464 on this system, the calls are FREE.

This is now available to the vast majority of Birmingham schools and a rapidly growing number, over 150 to date, have signed up to this exciting initiative.  Linking to the City's telephone network will enable you to benefit from improved telephone service availability, low line rental and call charges to land lines outside the network and of course FREE calls to others on the same network.

All schools will be contacted in due course to discuss their telephone requirements and the feasibility and cost benefits of moving over to the City's network, but if you are contemplating changing your telephone system in the very near future, please contact Chris Green before committing to another service provider.  Telephone 303 8485 or e-mail Chris.Green@birmingham.gov.uk

Look out for E-mail updates of schools that have moved to the City's network.

What are the likely costs?

Typical examples of installations are as follows and full details are given in the Installing Centrex Telephones document.
