The city's corporate mobile telephone contract

The City Council now has a contract with Vodafone for the Provision of Mobile Voice and Data Communications.  This contract is for a Two Year period, and replaces the current contract with Orange.  No further orders should therefore be raised with Orange.

  • The new contract with Vodafone offers many financial benefits for the City, both in terms of reduced rental and call charges, however these benefits can only be fully realised with the migration of present 'Orange' and other providers phones to the new contract.

  • Users who have completed the minimum period of 12 months on their present contract can migrate to the new Vodafone contract.  It is envisaged that migration should be completed by 31st March 2003 for the majority of users. Details of migration options are provided in the document Mobile Phone Migration Options.

  • If your present mobile phone is comparatively modern and serviceable, it can be used on the new Vodafone contract, in each case a credit of £24-00 will accrue towards the purchase of accessories or phones of a higher specification where appropriate.

  • Orange will charge £20-00 for their phones transferred to the new contract, but this will be reimbursed by Vodafone.

  • Your present mobile number can be transferred (Ported) to the new contract but this should only be done where absolutely necessary or where there is a cost saving as the number will still be owned by the original provider i.e. in most cases 'Orange' and it will cost approximately 3p per minute more to dial the number from a Centrex land line than dialling a number owned by Vodafone.

  • When migration is complete, if you need to telephone a Vodafone number on the new contract, mobile to mobile calls should be made wherever possible because it will cost approximately 12p per minute less, than from a land line (Centrex) phone.

  • As requested by the Director of Resources, and approved by Cabinet, the processing of orders and the payment of invoices under the new contract, will all be controlled and co-ordinated centrally.  That role will be undertaken by the Telecommunications Team. There will be a recharge to departments for this service currently estimated to be £6-00 per unit (phone) per annum.

    • This is a no frills contract

    • No Free Talk time
    • No 2nd line
    • No Insurance
    • No Group Talk plans
    • Tariffs and Accessories
