City-wide survey

Asbestos is a very serious potential hazard which must be carefully managed. The Urban Design Department is arranging for a detailed asbestos survey to be carried out for each of our properties.

Asbestos surveys are highly specialized and cost, for a primary school, is normally in the region of £2-3000.

If you propose to undertake works then it is essential that you arrange for an asbestos survey to be undertaken of the area in which you propose to carry out works.

We would suggest that you consider extending this survey to include the whole school as with the increasing delegation of funding to schools this might be more cost effective. Where the survey is part of a significant project then it is acceptable to fund the survey using School Devolved Capital. Until such time as this survey is complete you must follow the Education Safety Service advice provided in the document Asbestos 2002.
