Minor Building Works and the Access
Initiative Budget
There are two sources of funds for access work to be carried out:
Minor Building Works and the Access Initiative
Budget.
Minor Building Works
This is a budget for pupils in mainstream schools with disabilities. Minor works are classed as installing handrails, toilet adaptations, ramps, solar filming.
The procedure to access this funding is that the Headteacher completes a Request for Minor Building Works Form available from the School’s Outreach Worker. This is forwarded to the Education Property Service section where arrangements are made to visit the School with a representative of
Asset Management and a Surveyor. The work is then costed and agreement given for the work to be
undertaken.
Access Initiative Budget
This is a grant available from the DfEE for adaptations to schools that allows access to pupils with disabilities into mainstream schools. A Steering Group meets once a term to discuss strategy and decides schemes to be supported. The Steering Group is made up of: Headteachers of Special Schools, Representatives from the Outreach Service, Physiotherapy Service, and
Asset Management Section.
