Progress Towards the Profile
Progress Towards the Profile launched in the autumn
term 2007 is designed for the assessment of children
in the year prior to reception. It has thirteen
assessment scales covering the six areas of learning
for the Early Years Foundation Stage, in the same
way as the Foundation Stage Profile. Each scale
contains the first three points from the equivalent
scale in the Foundation Stage Profile, and a
selection of development matters chosen to reflect
development across the relevant area of learning.
Progress Towards the Profile operates in the same
way as the Foundation Stage Profile, with
assessments made as and when children show
sufficient evidence for practitioners to judge that
they have attained particular scale points. It
includes an adapted version of the eProfile, for
recording assessments periodically as children
progress.
Building on this, further development work is taking
place to provide a birth to five assessment
framework for Birmingham, in conjunction with the
Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC).
Nursery Signposts is no longer available from the
2007-2008 school year.
For further information, please contact David
Bartlett on 303 8843.
