Masterclasses are designed to:
- Enable students to have a direct and immediate
encounters with university undergraduates and
university learning, usually within a FE and HE
environment
- Enhance performance at AS, A2 and similar levels
- Extend student knowledge and understanding of
generic AS and A2 themes and topics
- Enhance students’ competence and skill in
researching and presenting course work
Many of these Master Classes
are provided by the local Universities, Birmingham, Aston,
UCE, Newman College, Wolverhampton and Coventry. Oxford
and Cambridge Universities are also fully involved and
provide activities both in Birmingham and in their home
Universities.
Master Classes normally run after school during term time,
and are a connected series of sessions that aim to develop
skills in the range of A-Level subject. These are
offered through the academic year both at Year 9 Level and
then at Lower Sixth or Year 12 and Year 13 Levels.
They cover such topics as History, English, Mathematics,
Sciences, Applications to Universities, Interview
techniques, Study Skills, Course work supervision, and
allied topics.The Masterclass Programme for 2005/2006 will be run and administered by the Aimhigher West
Midlands Region. The schedule of Masterclasses available and the appropriate booking forms are on
